A card to make you smile today with the Play Date Cafe colors,

The color combo challenge was red, lime and grey. It is such an amazing color palette that I had to try my hand at it at once!

I am not huge flower maker, but these days that is changing. I find myself trying to make flowers out of different textures all the time– paper, felt, fabric and now tissue paper! The tissue paper idea came from Tissue Paper Magic Challenge in the Moxie Fab World

To make these flowers, I cut out strips of tissue paper. Since I did not have red paper, I inked my white tissue paper red. This also allowed me to get  a depth of color, with light and dark areas. I then crumpled and folded the papers and curved them into rounds.

Adhered some printed paper in between two tissue layers and a button and flower brad to top each flower. Here is a closeup view of the flowers,

The background grey paper, I folded and cut into shape. I need to invest in a good die cutting machine soon :)

hello spring, a card…

Today I stumbled upon one of my old cards, this one is actually the first card I made to submit for a publication (it did not make the cut, and got rejected). The call was for cards with a spring theme, and I really wanted to try my hand at making cards. I really did not know much, and I remember taking ages to research about what size card to make and what sentiments to use. Here is the result,

To get the look I was after, I stamped my bird image onto tissue paper with purple ink and then outlined it with a light pen. Perfect for the Tissue Paper Magic Challenge going on currently in the Moxie Fab World.

Now why was I thinking of my first card today? Because it was a happy mail day for me ! Don’t you just love it when you open your mailbox to find awesomeness in it :) ?

Today I received my copy of Card Creations Volume 9 and the book Create: Embellish. Both of these are super special issues to me. My very first card to be published ever (I did not give up after my first rejection, but tried again and again and finally a card got accepted! For this particular call I submitted 20 cards, and one of them was chosen) appears in the Cards Creation Volume 9 (its on page 20). And my very first paper layout to be published ever appears in the Create: Embellish book (on page 103). It feels so awesome to hold these issues in my hand and see my name in them :)

I will be sharing more about these layouts in the next week, so stay tuned!

2 cute…

Back to baby N’s first year scrapbook. This is layout titled “2 cute”. I love this enlargement photo, and  I framed it simply with patterned paper and added a title.

On the facing page is a layout I made using an 8 by 10 inch collage. When I have too many photos to fit in a layout, I find it easy and quick to use a photo software to make a collage and then scrapbook that. I used Picassa software here.

Spring colds are lingering on and on in our house. Baby and me have the fourth cold of this season. sigh. With her being only 19 months old, and me being pregnant there really isn’t much we can do but drink lots of OJ and hot water…

Hope you are having a better Wednesday!

My treasure… the two page spread

Todays’ layout is so precious… An all time favorite to be sure! ( I am saying that an awful lot these days it seems… But when I look back at baby photos, each and every one of them bring back so many memories!)

I absolutely love love love these photographs, and I wanted this layout to be a little different, so I cropped the photographs very creatively. Used all soft, pastel colors here.

Our baby’s name in Sanskrit language translates as “My treasure” and thats the story behind the title.

This is a digital layout, 12 by 12 inches in size. I used Adobe Photoshop CS4 software. All the patterned paper I used here are by Katie Pertiet. The journaling is done using Pea Steele fonts. I love all the pea fonts from www.kevinandamanda.com!! The stitching, ribbon and stamped hearts are from Shabby Princess. The pin with the green hearts is by Corina Nielson. The scalloped edge is by Cindy Little from DSE. The title alpha and the cross stitching border are from Creativity by Crystal.

Now this page, fits along with another layout I made earlier in Baby N’s scrapbook, and forms a two page spread that looks like this,

(click on the image to see enlarged version)

One more page down, I still have 10 more pages left to fill her scrapbook… Working at it fast!
