{using my watercolors…}

January 26, 2012

Have you been seeing the new trend in the scrapbooking industry? Yup, its watercolors. I love love love Dear lizzy’s new line “Neopolitan” and Amy Tangerines’ new paper line  ” Sketchbook”. I seem to be seeing the word “Paint” everywhere!!!

Which works well for me, coz I was a painter long before I was a scrapbooker. Way before I was a scrapbooker. I wish I had the time, to lose myself in my canvases and paints (which I have tons of, all unused.… {sigh})

You can see one of my favorite paintings here, and most of my other paintings here.

I have done some painting on my scrapbooking layouts, like the one I shared here. I wanted to do more now. Who doesn’t like to be trendy?

So two weeks ago, I went down to my basement and searched for some craft paints, brushes and palettes, brought them up to my studio and have been having fun with them; just doodling, or painting things at random (which I cannot share with you all right now…) This has made me so content.

Here is the card I wanted to share today, which I made for ThePunches Challenge in the Moxie Fab World

For this card, instead of punching patterned paper or cardstock, I punched some watercolor paper. I first painted on the paper and then randomly punched out squares and used these squares for the grid/collage.

Now the painting you see above, isnt really a painting… It started out as a scrap paper I used to test my paints, before I actually used them on the projects.… But then I liked the colors so I kept building onto it. I really did not have the time to give it more attention and finish it up. It needed a little more love. So I took a punch to it and made it into a card…

I love the randomness of the colors on the grid now. If you are scared to paint, go ahead and try your hand at it, and if you dont like what you have made, punch them into squares! This concept would also work beautifully with a large, bold patterned paper :)

I still have more ideas for the punch challenge, time to get working…

Supplies used:
Cardstock: Bazzil basics, The paper company
Watercolor paper: Strathmore
stickers: Authentique
Patterned paper: Crate paper
Punch, Paper edgers, corner rounder: Fiskars
foam dots, craft acrylic paints, foam brush…
