Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!!!
I don’t love my family any differently because it’s Valentine’s day, but getting flowers sure does make a woman feel special
Which brings me to todays craft project share.
As parents of two little ones, who have less than the required amount of sleep, making times for ourselves kind of ends up at the bottom of our priorities.
Often, we are too tired to find a baby sitter, make reservations and go out on an actual date. So we end up spending more and more time watching Netflix in our PJs. Which is nice, but only in moderation.
So I finally decided we needed something to make us jump out of this rut.
We needed to spend quality time with each other, just each other– not the baby monitor included.
And preferably wearing shoes not just warm fuzzy socks.
When I need to be excited about something– I turn it into a craft project.
(Except for tax filing– there is no way I can make that a craft project. sigh)
The first thing I did was to exchange Date night child care with another Mom friend.
To make this successful in the long term, try and pick a fixed day like the third thursday every month, so that it becomes part of your routine.
Then I made this cute cute cute Date Night box and you can see the step by step tutorial for it (with more photographs explaining how) at the Fiskars website here.
Now this Date box sits on our mantle and is a constant reminder that we are going to be having a date night soon!!
The box is filled with ideas that I would like to do on a date night. I also included a pen and a paper pad inside it, so that hubby dear could add his thoughts and ideas into it too.
And just the other day, we were watching Drivers Dives and Drive ins and they showcased a restaurant in our city that looked delicious, hubby dear, got up from the sofa, went to the mantle, got this date box out and wrote down the deets of the restaurant and said “We are going there for a date!”
Mission Accomplished.
Because really, to be better parents you need to nourish your relationship with each other first.
And as often as possible.
Not just on Valentine’s day
