How To Make A Cereal Box Notebook

Reuse and waste not by making these cereal box notebooks! This is a fun recycled craft that is easy to make. You can choose any Book Binding method for this, but today I used a Simple Book Binding using String Method.

As I am typing up this post today, I realize that books are something I have always loved making. I love altering them and I love collecting them. So, I am really not surprised that I have yet another book idea to share today 🙂

How to make A Cereal Box Notebook:

To start this one, cut into the cereal box of your choice to get a rectangle. A pair of sharp scissors like the Amplify works great here. Next, using your paper trimmer (I am using this one here), trim this rectangle to measure 12 inches by 7 inches.

Fold the cereal box rectangle in the middle, lengthwise to form the outer cover of the book. I chose to use the cardboard side up, but you can do it either way.

Now to make the inner pages, I used plain white printer/office paper that measures 8.5 by 11 inches. You will need to trim off about 1.5 inches off the long side of these papers so that they measure about 7 inches by 11.5 inches. Fold the sheets in half and place them inside the book cover.

To finish and bind the book, I first adhered some colorful washi tapes onto the front of the cover. Next, I pierced holes at equal intervals along the spine of the book. I added a simple blanket stitch to decorate and make the book.

If you don’t have cereal boxes to upcycle right away, you can always use thick card stock or patterned paper to form the exterior of the book. I hope you found this cereal box notebook tutorial fun and useful!
