Quick Knit Girls Cardigan

Today I’m sharing a Simple Quick Knit Girls Cardigan that I made for my 4 year old girl. It’s knit as one whole garment and there is no sewing together of pieces at the end.

For this Quick Knit Girls Cardigan, I am using Loops &Threads Kaleidoscope Yarn ~ 100% Wool Yarn, but I only ended up needing 3 balls of yarn not the 5. I also used a Size 11 circular needle. How to make it

I followed the Bug Warmer pattern (which you can find here on Ravelry) for this sweater. It’s a free pattern and as simple as can be. I started with 38 stitches.ravelry_sweater

I love variegated yarns and this one is super soft and colorful. The sleeves and shoulder shaping create this increase that is SO pretty! knit_increase

I ended the sleeves a little shorter than called for (because my little one is small built) and it was done! It was time to choose some pretty buttons.

I chose 3 large buttons to match the button holes I had created , but also chose two smaller buttons for the other side right between the buttonholes. When the cardigan is all buttoned the 5 buttons line up and look super cute!buttons_cardigan

all doneSee, I told you this was a Quick knit! The large needles and the fact that the sleeves are so short make quick work of knitting this up. If you are looking for something to knit as a gift this holiday season- this pattern is great choice!knit_sweater_girls

And here is my little bug wearing her cardigan. This is the best photo I could get that day folks, she is just SO full of energy every other photo I took was blurry. Oh to have the energy of a 4 year old!

  1. This is super cool. I do crochet but yet to start knitting. Currently I am working on a cardigan and poncho project. Love the color combinations that you used. Awesome

Thank you!! I love crocheting too, but only squares or rectangles- I can’t shape a garment in crochet!

  2. Such an adorable sweater. Knitting is a skill I wish I had but have never taken the time to learn. This is making me want to take up a new hobby!

  3. I love all the colors you picked, It’s so girly and beautiful.

Oh thank you! Knitting is pretty easy to learn- and I love to do it while watching TV

I have already made your rainbow afghan — 2 of them in fact for a birthday present and graduation present. I’d love to make this Bug Warmer too but the yarn you used is discontinued. I love variegated yarn. Can you recommend any other yarn to use?

That yarn was from my stash, so I’m not surprised it’s discontinued. Maybe try a Hometown USA by lion brand yarn again? And yay for the afghans you’ve knit!!! So happy for u!
