Easy Crochet Beanie That Is Quick To Make

Today I am sharing an easy Crochet Beanie pattern that is simple and colorful. You can quickly whip this one up as a gift. And best of all, you only need 1/2 a skein of yarn for this project. It’s a great yarn stash buster.

Hello friends! Remember those two Caron Cupcake hats I made the other day? Well, I had quite a bit of yarn leftover and I started this quick crochet beanie with that. The granny clusters are the same as in this Basic Granny Square Pattern.

When it comes to creating hats- crochet is always my best friend. I like how it’s easy to make a circle and I love that this hat comes together from top to bottom. This way, I can kinda wear the hat midway and make sure it fits and all.

SUPPLIES USED:

For this Crochet Beanie,

  • I used about half a skein of Caron Cupcakes yarn in colorway Sweet Berries. I love the look this self-striping yarn creates for this hat.
  • I used the recommended size G 4.00mm hook- I’m using the Clover crochet hooks, You gotta love how colorful they are!

Start with a simple magic ring and increase to form a circle. If you haven’t done this before, I have a previous post with a video tutorial showing how to crochet a granny circle.

If you find that the colors are not changing at the end of a round- optionally you can cut off the excess yarn left of that color off the skein, and then join the new color at the start of the round. I know many people do this!

I let the yarn stripe as it wants, with color changes in the middle of the round and all. I just wanted to finish up the yarn and make a hat that looked cute. I really did not have enough yarn to manage the color pooling. But in the end, it all works out and I love how nice the colors all look together!

Repeat Round #5 till you reach the required length. I had a total of 19 rounds from start to finish, and this makes an adult-sized crochet beanie.

Child Size:

For this Crochet beanie child-size, omit round #11 increase and adjust the length accordingly. You will probably only need 15 rounds of length.

TIPS FOR YOUR CROCHET BEANIE:

  • This is the perfect project to use up all your little leftover yarn scraps. I used just half a skein of self-striping yarn here today, but you could totally use 3 or 4 different colored yarn bits to make this.
  • This crochet beanie is also the perfect little project to take with you on the go. It is small, portable and travels well as a car project.
  • If you have just two colors of yarn leftover from some previous project, simply use this pattern and alternate the colors to create a striped crochet beanie.
  • An optional way to finish off this crochet beanie- add a round of single crochet as the last round using a contrasting color. Like for my example, maybe a white or cream color
  • Each Caron cupcake skein of yarn comes with a pom-pom, that’s the main reason I bought it, and a pom-pom on this little hat would look super cute! I used up the pom-pom for my previous hat though so had none left for this.
  • This Crochet Beanie is a super quick project! You can easily make it in an hour or two if you are a beginner. I love projects that I can start on the weekends and complete before Monday arrives- and this one is the perfect example.
