I like to print my photos at home. I have been doing this for a few years now and I totally love the convenience of it. I’m pretty sure it is not the most economical option, but this is my hobby and it gives me immense pleasure.
There were days when I used to batch process my photos and upload them to some retailer (usually shutterfly or costco) and then receive a nice 2 inch tall stack of new photos. I never really would use all of those photos or put them in an album in time. Not to mention, these days I rarely get time to sit and process a bunch of photo.
Nowadays, when I feel like I need to scrapbook- you know that itch to glue photos and pretty paper together, I sit at my computer and print a few photos. Somedays, especially in the cold months when we are cooped up inside way too much, I print a 12 by 12 enlargement photo in the middle of the day. And that makes me smile.
But I digress. This post was all about the new printer I got this week.
I already own a great photo printer that I absolutely love: The Canon Pro 9000 Mark ii. This printer has not disappointed me ever and prints beautiful, color rich photographs each and every time. But this printer is not wireless and since it prints such high quality stuff, it is pretty slow in its printing. Also, it uses 8 different ink cartridges (which is why it is amazing) but I have learnt early on to stock up on the Photo Magenta and Photo Cyan colors.
Now, I also need a wireless printer, to print all the everyday stuff. I was using the Epson Stylus NX 530, which is a wireless printer+scanner. I bought this one early last year and have loved it. It saved space in my cluttered office by reducing the necessity of a separate scanner machine. I would have used this one forever, but something went wrong with its chip and it keeps giving an error message now. It was time to find a new printer.
I finally bought the MG 5520 for one reason- It was the cheaper one.
What sold me about this printer——–> I can feed both 8.5 by 11 inch paper and 4 by 6 inch photo paper at once. Simultaneously. So at any given time, I can print either with regular paper or with my photo paper. Which is so crazy good. This way, if I take a photo on my phone that I really adore and want to print right away, I CAN. The printer is on my Wi Fi network and prints easily and quickly.
Secondly, it uses the same ink cartridges as the other printer I already owned (The Canon Pro 9000 Mark ii). This meant that I no longer needed to stock up on two different brands of ink. Also, I am a big fan of the Canon Photo Paper Matte and yes, the new printer is a Canon too. Win win.
I am super excited to try out this new printer! I’ll let you know in a future post how it works.
PS: This is not a sponsored post. I have not received any product or monetary compensation for this post. I just voluntarily typed the word “Canon” so many times 🙂
