A whole bunch of Valentine stuff coming your way!

First, a simple printable to make with your kids. Just print, cut and fold. I explain more about how my printable cards work in this post...

Second, a set of cards for your loved one. Prop this card (with a sweet handwritten message inside it) on the dresser for Valentine’s morning and surprise him. Or her.

Lastly a completely colorful set of 3 by 4 inch cards. These would work great as tags for valentine gifts or as filler cards for your Project life :)

If you are interested in digital freebies, like/follow me on facebook or twitter and get the latest updates and sneaks!  I  pin a lot more of the freebies that I spy in this projectlifeLOVE board on pinterest.

Thanks for stopping by today & have a fabulous weekend!!

We are expecting snow. We are probably going to stay in, cook yummy food (we have the menu planned already– yes we are like that) and hopefully I will get time to craft.

What are your plans for this weekend?

{Project life: Week 5 : February}

PLWeek5_web3

It’s Project life time again! It’s week 5 and I am still here.

PLWeek5_web3

With the past two days being super busy I was very tempted to skip working on my spread. But then I realized that I needed to work on my PL spread more than ever this week, just to make myself feel good. I decided that I should just make it quick and move on. Nothing fancy required. This week its a single page Design E style page protector. Free printable subway art for February came from here (which you can repin here). I also loved this subway art by eighteen25 (which you can repin here)

PLWeek5_web2

I made photo collages for all of my 6 by 6 inserts using these free storyboard templates by ginger pixel. If you are a photoshop novice, she also has this comprehensive tutorial on how to add your photos to your templates (repin it now for future reference)

I made most of my photos Black n white and colored just a few photos. A hint of color rather than a pop of color.

I chose to shrink my template to be about 4.75 inches and then back each collage with a patterned paper. All of the 6 by 6 papers ( I love 6 by 6 paper pads!) for this weeks spread from BasicGrey’s Fiction collection.

PLWeek5_web

And here is a look at my final spread. Really simple. The only embellishments are the Freckled Fawn Wood words and some felt hearts. And lots of Tiny attacher staples.

PLWeek5_web1

I don’t have  a new freebie ready for today, I am working on a couple different things and will have them posted by the end of this week. There will be free Valentine cards for kids and adults– so stop by again ;)

Meanwhile, feel free to revisit last years Valentine themed free printable (Has it been a year now since I started desiging freebies? Wow, time sure flies when you are having fun!

Week two of my Project life is a spread that simply makes me happy! I think its all the bright fun colors here…

Pl_week2_smitha

(journaling has been blurred, to maintain privacy)

The top right photo is an instagram that printed out really well. The words and Chevron are by Pink Paislee Digital. On the bottom right card I used some free digital glitter by Sahlin Studio. The top right card and the bottom left card– are both part of todays freebie (scroll all the way down this blog post to download). I just took last weeks freebie and colored the words. I don’t know which I love better now– the grey version or the color version!

The middle left card is a photo of my daughter playing peekaboo. I actually sew/washi taped a 4 by 6 pocket around the photo so its a flap now…

PL_flap_webPLweek2_web

The middle right card was inspired by this card of  I made earlier this week. I used the same technique I used to make this card but used the Basic Grey Tiny alphas to spell out my words. The ZIng embossing powders I used are Butter, Rose, Grapefruit, Aqua and Cricket (i think?)

Week one, and I can’t believe I am on track already. The first page of our album has been seen at least 20 times this last week, so I decided its time to add more stuff to the album.

PLweek1_web

( the journaling has been blurred  to maintain a little privacy)

All photos in this weeks spread are instagrams. Top corner on the left is a free new year’s subway art from here. For the top corner on the right I used these free sn@p printables. I actually stitched up two of the printables in Photoshop to get what I wanted. Bottom row middle is a something I created (and is part of the freebie if you scroll below). I added a word with some thickers (I have hoarded enough of these, so I am glad to actually be using some up) and sewed it down, just to be safe. I hate it when my alphabets move after they have been in the album for a while.

wordoftheweek_Web

I am printing photos (and the PL cards) at home using my Canon 9000 pro series. There are many printers way better than this, but this one works just fine. I use this paper by Canon- which is simply amazing!!! It is a matte paper and has the look and feel of cardstock. Only it doesn’t soak up ink like cardstock, but gives a beautiful crisp print with vibrant colors. This printer/paper combo is the main reason Project life is working for me this year.  I am also using this new corner rounder by Fiskars. And here is this weeks Free Printable, a fun and nice filler card, for those weeks when you don’t have too many photos,

A new morning

A new day

A new year.

A brand new year!

Hello 2013

2013_web

A new year means new crafty resolutions right? ;)

Last year I did Becky Higgins Project life approach Digitally– documenting every month in a two page spread. I have most of the year finished, just havent got around to blogging it yet. (Click here for my last year’ posts)

For this year, I have a new approach to Project Life.

While doing it digitally was fun, I have yet to print my album. And now that my older one is a little older– 3 yrs+ I am pretty sure she will enjoy looking at the album in progress.

So this year I am doing the actual Project Life= album, page protectors and printing photos at home. I really want to use the Seafoam Kit by Elise Cripe, but it hasn’t hit the market yet.

black_white_web

But I am not doing it with a two page spread per week. That would be too much pressure for me to handle.

Instead, I am aiming to do about 2 or 3 page protectors per month. Maybe. A page will be done when it is filled, not when the week is up. And I wont share all pages on the blog either, just a few here and there.

There might be months with just one page.

And that’s ok.

My album is sitting on a makeshift table, a big card board box. Its the right height for the girls to look at and thats what this project is about. Them.

Its not just preserving the memories, its also the process of preserving the memories. And enjoying those memories at any time. Not just when I pull out the album and let them see it.

And this album is a family project this year.

yes family :)

I will be overseeing the album, choosing which page protector to use and what photos to use.

But– I have delegated the printing of selected photos to my husband. He LOVES photography (check out his photos here), and LOVES our new photo printer– so this has been fun already. I usually used to upload my photos to Costco and pick them up once in every few weeks, but printing the photos at home just makes this SO much easier!

And my little girl, this one here in the photo– she is in charge of rounding the corners (We use this *NEW* corner rounder by Fiskars). And she is good at it and its fun for her! They might not all be perfect but thats ok.

photo_web

(I have had to tell myself and my husband that “It’s OK” a couple of times…)

I think it is more important that we get this done in a fun way– not that it is absolutely pixel perfect :)

Enough talk, now shall we move to how the cover page looks?

Project_life_cover_page_2web

For the “2013” card, I created the 2013 in Photoshop, and added a wood veneer that I had created for us saying “The Katti’s”

I then added two coats of Glossy Accents on top of the numbers to give it some gloss.

2013_web

I also added some more wood veneer words and some sequins to some of the photos…

IMG_9611

I added my last weeks Free Printable She/He Said card with some journaling. And called my cover page done.

Project_life_cover_page_web

On hind sight, I would not have done the Glossy Accents– it took too much time to dry and I had no patience for it..

But I am in love with this project already, and have filled a few pockets of the next page already!! Eeks, this is exciting!!

And here is a Free Printable for you all– the 2013 card. Hope you enjoy this one!
