{someone new to love is here…}

For the Weekly Challenge at Studio Calico, I made another layout using paint…

I like the end result of this layout. Two days ago I hated it. I actually wanted to cut out parts of it and adhere it onto a fresh layout and start over again. In the end, I was spending more and more hours (yes hours!) just staring at the layout, trying to decide if I liked it or not… so I decided to like it, and move on with life. I then layered all these punched papers and that looked good!

I started the layout using this SC Sunday Sketch,

My favorite part of the layout has gotta be the title…

I used a lot of the new Jenni Bowlin punches (I also added this tag I made last week), and splatters of paint. I also painted the base cardstock with streaks of yellow watercolor.. this did kind of wrinkle the paper, but it will straighten out once it sits in the album for a while…

I have some hidden journaling in here, which is coincidently the January recipe challenge at Club CK

I love the journaling and the hidden pocket! And now I have a new layout for the baby’s first year album!

Have you been seeing the new trend in the scrapbooking industry? Yup, its watercolors. I love love love Dear lizzy’s new line “Neopolitan” and Amy Tangerines’ new paper line  ” Sketchbook”. I seem to be seeing the word “Paint” everywhere!!!

Which works well for me, coz I was a painter long before I was a scrapbooker. Way before I was a scrapbooker. I wish I had the time, to lose myself in my canvases and paints (which I have tons of, all unused.… {sigh})

You can see one of my favorite paintings here, and most of my other paintings here.

I have done some painting on my scrapbooking layouts, like the one I shared here. I wanted to do more now. Who doesn’t like to be trendy?

So two weeks ago, I went down to my basement and searched for some craft paints, brushes and palettes, brought them up to my studio and have been having fun with them; just doodling, or painting things at random (which I cannot share with you all right now…) This has made me so content.

Here is the card I wanted to share today, which I made for ThePunches Challenge in the Moxie Fab World

For this card, instead of punching patterned paper or cardstock, I punched some watercolor paper. I first painted on the paper and then randomly punched out squares and used these squares for the grid/collage.

Now the painting you see above, isnt really a painting… It started out as a scrap paper I used to test my paints, before I actually used them on the projects.… But then I liked the colors so I kept building onto it. I really did not have the time to give it more attention and finish it up. It needed a little more love. So I took a punch to it and made it into a card…

I love the randomness of the colors on the grid now. If you are scared to paint, go ahead and try your hand at it, and if you dont like what you have made, punch them into squares! This concept would also work beautifully with a large, bold patterned paper :)

I still have more ideas for the punch challenge, time to get working…

Haveli…

Today I am going to go back in time ( to a few months ago, not to far… ), and share with you a painting of mine. I love colors, and enjoy exploring every medium there is in art. But painting is what made me discover the artist in me :)

That said, all of my life I have been painting, but never really shared it with the world. This painting of mine, “Haveli-a window into the courtyard” was the first painting of mine to be exhibited in a gallery!

This painting was selected to be a part of the Burnsville Performing Art Centers International festival  “Cultural Perspectives: My Home, Your Home,Our Home!”. This was on display in their gallery from June 17 to July 31st 2010.

It is an acrylic painting on wood, measuring 12″ by 24″. This is a representation of a courtyard in a mansion or a palace with people wearing the tradional Rajasthani attire– Women wearing a dupatta (scarf) over their head and men wearing Turbans (a headgear). I absolutely love the shapes and intricacy of the jewelry and door in this painting. While molding these shapes I am instantly reminded of home, and drawn back to its comforting memories and the lingering aroma of spices. Every sari in India has these vibrant colors, and they are rich in details and designs — which is what I have tried to portray in this painting.

The International festival was an awesome experience! There was music, food and activities from so many cultures and the event was colorful and vibrant, full of music. And I took hundreds of photographs of the event and of me and my painting!

  • Welcome to my blog! Here I share everything that is color, crafty and creative in my life. A happy mixture of scrapbooking, photography, photoshopping, sewing, painting and two little girls.
