{a week of spring: day two: spring blooms…}

April 16, 2012
title_web

Hi everyone! It’s day two of spring projects, and here is a scrapbooking layout titled “spring blooms”

This one is a double page layout, and the photos here were taken last year, when I was pregnant (which seems like a long lost distant memory today!) My favorite photo here has to be the photo of the cherry blossoms! And a near second would be the photo of my belly peeking from behind the tree :)

I used felt and punched flowers here,

This layout actually appeared in a special issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine called Scrapbooking ideas for every season which came out a while ago…

Thanks for stopping by today! Will see you all tomorrow with some more spring :)

Hello hello my crafty friends. Am back today with a quick masculine dad card to share…

This one, was a last minute card (really, all of my card submissions are last minute!) that I squeezed in and I was SO excited when I got the happy email from Miss Opel for it :)

It appears in this new issue of Paper Crafts Magazine,

I got this issue in the mail a couple of days ago, and man is it packed with a TON of amazing projects. Loved reading it! (Psst: You really should like The Paper Crafts Magazine’s facebook page! They are so much fun!!!)

As amazing as it was to get my card in the magazine, I have to say that I got a super super sweet email yesterday from my new friend Patti, that was even more amazing! She emailed me with a link to her blog, and said that she had seen this card in the magazine and was inspired to create one of her own. How kind of her to take time to actually email me :)

Thanks Patti, I love your card!  And I know you all are inquisitive, so click here to go her blog and see what she made!

PS: I have a super fun post planned for tomorrow!!! (tomorrow happens to be just 10 minutes away, so stick around and see what its all about!)

PPS: Things have been completely out of whack for the past couple of days, with my mother in law being really ill and hospitalized. Things are better now, and we are getting back into a routine slowly. I missed my blog in those few days, and this also made me realize how therapeutic typing a blog post actually is. Here is to blogging more!

{photo inspiration: “play”}

March 16, 2012

This weeks Friday Freebie is going to come on Saturday. Hopefully.

For the photo friday challenge {play} @Thesimplethings blog,

When I read this weeks prompt :play:, this layout/photo came to mind. And stayed in my mind for the whole evening, so I dug it out and decided to blog about it. This isnt a new layout, its one I made last summer but this is what “play” is for my little girl. The swings.

Incidently, this layout appeared in this previous issue of Scrapbooks etc, and I totally forgot to share it on my blog :)

While on the topic of Scrapbooks etc, they have two of my cards up on their blog here and here!

{my word search card…}

February 7, 2012
word_search_web

All my life I have loved words. I used to (used to: past tense, not because I dont love them but because I don’t have the time!) do crosswords, sudoku and word searches all the time, and be good at them.

(photo clearly taken at night, one hour before the submission calls deadline)

And here is my word search card, which appears in this new issue of Paper Crafts Magazine..

Two funny stories to this card. One, the inspiration for this card came from a Tshirt somebody was wearing while we were at the state fair last August. It had a crossword on it and a ” hi there” in it I think. Since I seem to get ideas all the time, and then conveniently forget them, I made sure to sketch this the minute we got home :)

Two, I forgot all about this card until yesterday. I never get any cards accepted in the monthly issues of Paper craft magazine, coz the competition is just so great and the cards are so few… So when I got this issue in the mail, I  just put it aside to be perused in leisure… And late last nite while I was reading it, from the beginning, each page and each card, suddenly my name pops off the page, and I am like ” Whoa! thats my card!”. Scared the hubby a little bit there. And then I turn the page, and I had another card of mine. Totally loved that feeling :)

The past couple of nights have been really rough, with the baby not sleeping. Not sleeping would be ok, but she cried constantly and was clearly in discomfort. Today is looking better, but I am still crossing my fingers here…

Now I gotta go and work on my Project Life monthly page. I have so many ideas to incorporate into this one! Ciao!

{a mother’s love…}

Hello again my friends… yup, its a two post day today… Only because I got time to sit and upload these pictures to my blog (finally!!)

This layout of mine, titled “a mothers love” IS my all time favorite layout. This is also the third scrapbooking layout I ever made. Our first daughter Nidhi, was two months old, and I was so inspired to scrapbook all those cute, adorable photos of her. Not to mention that new motherhood feeling… Things were moving so fast, I did not want to forget anything, I wanted all of those memories preserved :)

So I started scrapbooking. I had magazines at home, and I kept flipping through them, and marking the pages that inspired me. Thats when my husband came to me and said, “you need to make layouts that are YOU, design them yourself and not try and scraplift stuff…”

Which got me thinking… Hmmmm.… how could I do that?

I pulled out my sketch book, and this time I looked at design books, typography books, books of great painters; and made about 10 sketches. Really detailed sketches. And then I started this layout…

This has to be the most planned layout I have ever made. At that time, my art table was in the basement and this layout took me about three weeks. It was a work in progress, and I had papers all over the place and nobody was allowed near my table for a long time… (especially said husband!)

The end result, has to be like I said, the most precious layout of mine ever… And this is page three of baby N’s first year scrapbook album now,

(click on image to see enlarged version)

I don’t know about you, but I am not an organized/planned scrapper… I choose a bunch of photos, print them, and then sit and scrapbook… I wish I would plan and size my photos, so that I had some tiny photos some larger ones, but I really don’t have the patience to that in advance. So most of my paper scrapbooked layouts have 4 by 6 photos.

(conversly, this is why I love digital scrapbooking… I can chose photos, resize them, scrapbook them– all at once; and most of the time within an hour)

Couple of close ups of the layouts, (ok not a couple, but lots of close ups…)

This paisley motifs was done using watercolor paints on a watercolor paper. Thats right, I used a watercolor paper instead of cardstock for this layout. I drew inspiration for my paisley motif, from the black top (kurta) that I am wearing in the photographs. The embroidery in that top is very classic and intricate. Since I am not such a great embroider, I instead used water colors and a felt pen to draw the motif, and highlighted it with some thread work. I also added some leaves, that I punched out from papers.

Lots of embroidery on this layout…

I wanted to highlight the photo that lies beneath the title. To do this I added hand embroidery with beads. Doodled my design with a pen, and used a paper piercer to make the embroidery go easier and quicker.

I grouped brads of the same color, but different size, to create a flower. (as seen beneath the word LOVE). For some reason this seemed like a novel idea at that time :)

Oh, I forgot to mention, this layout was published and appeared in this Dec 2011 issue of Scrapbook etc. I was SO excited when I got that email!

Thanks for stopping by today! And if you got till here, thanks for reading this really long post :)
