Hello May! How is it May already!?!

With a new month, comes a new quilt block :)

If you have been following my blog, you know about my my Quilt a block a month 2012 goal (or if you are new you can read more about it HERE).

So for this months block,  the fifth block of the year, I have a scrappy block– something to use up all and any of those fabric scraps in your stash, and you can find my step by step tutorial for it HERE from the Fiskars blog

Hope you enjoy it! This is an easy block fo anybody to start with, and yet it is a bit interesting because of the little bit of design involved. Hope you give it a try!

Its going to be a little quiet on my blog front for a while– We are completely decluttering and rearranging our entire house. Doing some gardening. We have had two babies since we bought this house, and it it time to seriously rearrange how we live (This is what I am good at doing, and all my life, I have rearranged my room atleast 4 or 5 times a year. Just go and ask my brother. ) - and get rid of  a lot of stuff that we dont need. That means garage sale :) And hopefully painting the house too. I am also purging out a ton of scrapbooking stuff– and will mostly be selling them at the garage sale, but if are looking for something to buy, send me an email and I will let you know if I have it :)

I still have lots of projects to share, and have scheduled blog posts for you all. I just wont be doing any challenges, or facebook and twitter. I really havent sat at a computer for over two days now, and it feels good.

Be good while I am gone!

Hello April! And with a new month, comes a new quilt block :)

If you have been following my blog, you know about my my Quilt a block a month 2012 goal (or if you are new you can read more about it HERE).

So for this months block,  the fourth block of the year, I have a scrappy block– something to use up all and any of those fabric scraps in your stash, and you can find my step by step tutorial for it HERE from the Fiskars blog

Hope you enjoy it! This one was a super awesome block for me. I had originally planned another block, but when I got my fabric out and set up all my supplies, I just had this idea to use just the scraps– and this block came together in 15 minutes flat (that includes the time I took to stop and photograph each step!). Love love love this one :) \

I saw this on Chelsea’s blog today, and its such a brilliant idea!!! Just what I need to get some structure out here…

From Traceyjays blog, here are the rules: Pick three quilting/sewing goals for the month, 3 things you know you can accomplish.  Then do them.

So here are my goals for April:

1. Start the spring quilt with the house design (that currently resides in my head only!)

2. Make something pretty for the girls room/ or for the girls wear (Kinda borrowed Traceyjay’s idea here :)

3. Sew a handmade gift

Here is hoping I get them done!

So for this months block,  already the third block of the year, I have a traditional flying geese pattern– but I chose to make it a multicolroed one, and you can find my step by step tutorial for it HERE from the Fiskars blog

Hope you enjoy it!

I am eagerly waiting to finish up all my blocks and start assembling this quilt already!

Hope you enjoy it!

PS: My friend Kelly is not big on sewing, so has an awesome take on my block a month quilt idea… She is making a scrapbook layout based on each months block! You can check out her layout for January here. How cool is that?

I love quilting. Its one of my big new loves in crafting. I love that we can play with color so easily with prints in a color.

But really, I have made only two quilts in the recent years– one for each daughter– and I made those during the last few weeks of my pregnancies. Because I was in big time nesting mode then :)

I really would love to sew more, and have more quilts around the house. I love to hand quilt, as that gives me something to do while watching tv/movies at night with the hubby. I have tons of fabric/sewing/quilting ideas that I love on pinterest. I have seen some amazing color combos, techniques and patterns; and every time I tell myself “Someday I would love to make a quilt like that!” (don’t we all do that ?)

Well, for 2012 I have a new goal. To sew more. Use that sewing machine on fabric rather than on paper (for my scrapbooking layouts). Learn new techniques, design new patterns, and in general explore the quilting world a little bit more…

Now I don’t promise that I will be perfect.

But for each month this year, I will be sewing an unique quilt block. My take on some traditional and some not so traditional block patterns.

To begin with, here is this month’ block: a Chevron patterned block (or a herringbone pattern) : and you can find my step by step tutorial for it HERE from the Fiskars blog.

Hope you enjoy it, and sew along with me!
