Simple Crochet Baby Blanket Tutorial:
Start with a chain of 54. Chain loose to avoid creating a tight puckered blanket edge. Full written pattern pdf can be downloaded here

Work in blanket stitch, creating clusters of sc,2dc. Full written pattern can be downloaded below.

Change colors every 15 rows. I’ve recently learnt how to join yarn with a magic knot that creates clean invisible transitions. This is a must know crochet technique that you will use over and over again!

The second pink color is such a subtle change from the white. I love the pastel beauty of these two colors together. Crochet 15 rows of the soft pink. If you are like me and like pen and paper, here is a crochet printable to keep track of your rows.

I added a third color, which is again a soft pink gradient, just a shade or two darker. The three colors together add so much interest to this simple crochet baby blanket. Simple stitches always shine in a beautiful color palette.

The finished blanket measures approximately 30 by 36 inches in size and is a great stroller size. I did not add any border, instead leaving the blanket with clean modern color blocks.

Notes:
- Use soft pastels for a classic baby look. For a baby boy blanket, try this combo of Bernat Blanket Yarn colors -> vintage white + smoky green + gray blue
- Use a multiple of 3 starting chain to adjust to make a smaller or larger size blanket.
- This is a bulky yarn project, and I like to size up in my crochet hook to make sure that the fabric is not too dense and stiff and has a soft drape.
- Try changing colors every few rows instead of color blocks to create a different look like in this colorful crochet stripe blanket
- This is the first time I am using the Bernat Blanket Yarn for a baby blanket, and I love how soft the blanket turned out! Highly recommend this yarn for baby projects.
- You can make this entire blanket in one solid color if you prefer to keep it simpler or unable to choose 3 colors that co-ordinate nicely.
- If you want to make this blanket in one color instead of the three I used in my pattern, you will need only 2 skeins of the yarn.
Conclusion:

This simple crochet baby blanket makes a heartfelt handmade gift idea. I love the three color usage but might also make this in one solid color next! The stitch definition is so pretty and easy to make, this will be one of those patterns that I will reach for again and again.
