I have shared many DIY book making ideas here on my blog, and I’ve shown you how to make a book with paper and glue, and how to staple a booklet with a regular stapler, this how to bind a book with string method remains a strong favorite. Today I am using that technique, but in a simpler version to show you how to make a handmade journal

Material Needed:
- Paper for inside pages (printer paper or sketch paper)
- Cardstock or decorative paper (for the cover)
- A bookbinding Kit

- Fold your pages to size. These are called signatures. You can use about 10 to 15 pages here.
- Measure and trim the cover to size from sturdy card stock.
- Mark and Punch holes, using a ruler and awl.
- Thread the string through to bind the journal

Since the binding on these handmade journals is simplistic, I added colorful flowers and gold embossed words to decorate them. That Gold embossing has some sparkle to it that is so cool!

I really like how the hand lettered “ideas” word turned out here! I used a silver embossing powder which had some sparkle to it.

Creating something unique and beautiful from just paper and twine always amazes me. These handmade journals turned out super cute and you can watch my Making a Handmade Journal Video where I walk you through the steps.
To gift these, I simply added a big bow onto the handmade journal and I also made a matching personalized tag. You could easily add the gold embossed name onto the journal itself to make the gift even more special.
