How to Crochet the Puff Stitch Step by Step
Start with a chain of 20. Your starting chain can be larger or smaller as needed, but keep it an even number + 4. Here I have 16 + 4 =20

Step 1: Yarn over, insert hook into the fourth chain from hook, pull up a loop. You know have 3 loops on your hook.

Step 2: Yarn over, insert hook into SAME CHAIN SPACE as before, pull up a loop. You should now have 5 loops on your hook.

Step 3: Yarn over, insert hook into again into SAME CHAIN SPACE as before, pull up a loop. You should now have 7 loops on your hook.

Step 4: Time to close the puff. Yarn over and slowly pull through ALL loops on the hook.

Step 5: Ch 1 to lock and finish off the puff stitch.

Skip one chain, and into the next chain make another puff stitch. Repeat till the end of the row.

At the end of row 1, you should end up with 9 puffs.

Turn work.
Repeat row: Ch 3, create puffs into the spaces between the two puffs of the row below and create your last puff into the ch3 turn chain of below row. Turn.
