  2. Practice the chain stitch
  3. Make the Single crochet stitch

Take It One Step at a Time

When you learn to crochet, it’s easy to feel like you need to master everything at once. You don’t and honestly you cannot. It will take patience and practice to get perfect stitches.

Try this simple path:

  1. Practice chaining until it feels natural- when I wanted my tween to learn to crochet, she learnt the chain and was so happy. She loved the stitch, and would sit down and make a long rope of 200 chains. She did this for weeks!
  2. Next add single crochet rows, without expecting to create any perfect shapes. Wonky is okay, wonky means you are progressing 🙂
  3. Try double crochet
  4. Repeat small swatches

Your hands will remember faster than you expect.

What is the first thing to crochet for beginners?
