How To Make A Slip Knot Step By Step Tutorial

There are many ways to make your starting slip knot. The below method I’m sharing today, is the method I was taught and have been using it for years successfully with no problem. Here is How To Make A Slip Knot in 4 simple steps.

How to make a slip knot step by step
  1. Place your yarn down on your table/ surface, and then create a small loop by overlapping it as seen in the image below.
  2. With your left hand, hold the tail end of the yarn down firmly against the table/ surface. Pinch the thumb and fore finger of your right hand together and bring towards the loop.
  3. Insert the two pinched fingers of your right hand into the loop and under the tail. Reach for the running yarn – grabbing it with your pinched fingers and pulling it into the loop from beneath the yarn tail. You now have a new loop- lets call it the second standing loop
  4. All this while your right hand should be holding the yarn tail. Pull the yarn tail until a knot forms. Insert your crochet hook or knitting needle into this second standing loop. With your right hand, pull the running yarn and tighten the second standing loop to fit snugly onto the crochet hook. And that is how to make a slip knot crochet or knitting!
