how to make a watercolor mixing chart Step by Step

Step 1: Create a 10 by 10 grid on your Watercolor paper. Space out your rows and columns evenly and draw your grid lightly using a pencil. Using an oil based pen write the color names or numbers.

Step 2: Add in your colors! Add equal amount of the column color + row color to fill in the appropriate box. Then mix the two colors gently on the paper with a clean paint brush.

Step 3: Repeat this process. I found that working in batches gave best results. I would add colors to 3 or 4 blocks at a time. This gave me enough time to mix and blend the colors before the marker sat on the paper for too long.

Step 4: Once you’ve filled out half of the chart above the diagonal, you’ve basically seen all the color combos there are. For the bottom triangle, I simply diluted the colors with a drop of water to see how the results would change.

Its amazing to see how many newer shades of color you can create with just 10 colors!
