This half linen stitch blanket knitting pattern has a unique texture and that is reversible. Makes a nice dense fabric with no holes.
This blanket uses a simplified knit linen stitch pattern, where you purl all of the even rows. This makes the blanket work up quicker, but still maintains that woven look. If you are new to the craft, start here- Learn to knit for beginners.

I find knitting patterns for blankets and throws to be relaxing and therapeutic. Making a scarf is fun, and a great portable project but I finish it easily in a week or two. A blanket, on the other hand, is a longer time commitment and it is always waiting for you. I know that at the end of the day after the kids are in bed I can sit down with my favorite Netflix show and knit a few rows. And it is so satisfying to see your blanket grow!
What you Will Need:

For today’s linen stitch blanket knitting pattern I used a total of 4 skeins of yarn to finish my blanket. I’m using the Caron Tea Cakes Yarn in two colorways- 2 skeins in color Lady Grey and 2 skeins in color Oolong.
Each skein was 8.5 oz. / 240 g and measured 204 yds. / 186 m. This is a beautiful variegated yarn with tones of greys and blues but is sadly discontinued now. Any Super Bulky 6 yarn like Charisma™ Yarn by Loops & Threads can be substituted instead.
I’m using the recommended Size 11, 8mm knitting needle. I chose a 29inch long circular needle in order to accommodate a large number of stitches.
linen stitch blanket knitting pattern Tutorial
For a throw that is about 55 inches wide, you’ll need to cast on 130 stitches
Row 1: *K1, Bring yarn forward, slip next stitch purlwise, bring yarn to the back of work* repeat till the end of the row
Row 2: Purl all stitches.
Row 3: K2, Bring yarn forward, slip next stitch purlwise, bring yarn to the back of work* repeat till the end of the row
Row 4: Purl all stitches.
Repeat these 4 rows to finish your blanket.

Here is a quick mockup of my stitches. In row 3, you can start your row with a slip and k1 instead of k2 for a neater finish.

This stitch is great to use while making sweaters, scarves and even smaller items like dishcloths.

After my first skein was done, I added the next colorway. Here are a few ways how to join yarn neatly into your blanket project.

I worked till I used up 4 skeins of yarn, which made my blanket roughly 45 inches long.
I would have loved to make this a 60 inch long blanket- but I ran out of yarn and this yarn was no longer being sold.
I added a pom pom border (tutorial coming soon!) in a salmon color to finish off the blanket. The blanket edges do curl a tiny bit, so it could use some blocking for a neater finish.

Notes:
- This is a super easy stitch/pattern! It is a 4 row repeat to remember, which means there is a lesser chance of making any mistakes. After you work a few rows, it becomes very easy to see where you need to slip and where you need to knit to create the texture pattern.
- The Knit Linen Stitch is a super slow pattern as you need to move the yarn back and forth for each and every stitch. It takes more time and patience. But it is not difficult at all, but very simple and easy.
- This linen stitch blanket knitting pattern goes way faster because the even rows are all purl only
- This stitch is great to use while making sweaters, scarves and even smaller items like dishcloths.

I hope you enjoy this linen stitch blanket knitting pattern friends! Happy Knitting!

Is a blanket worked in a solid color just as pretty as this one? Do the stitches stand out in a solid color?
Yes!! If you see the pic of my blanket near the very start- you can see the texture of the grey solid yarn! This is a great stitch for any solid colored yarn too
When starting row 4, 6 etc. am I always knitting the first 2 stitches? I don’t understand k1*k1
Hi Smitha! I’m a bit confused about the stitch count. With an even number of stitches, there is a leftover stitch at the end of each row. Am I supposed to be slipping this stitch, or should I have cast on an odd number of stitches?
Hi Lauren! Both the Linen and Half Linen stitch are worked over an even numbered of stitches. If you have a stitch leftover on Row 3- it might be the last slip stitch?
Hi where Cani get this wool from. Mo
The name of the color of the yarn you used?
the Caron Tea Cakes Yarn in Lady grey and Oolong colorways
This pattern looks lovely, but it does not work out. Linen stitch is done on an even number of stitches, half linen stitch is done on an uneven number of stitches. I’ve used the stitch pattern on and off for many years and loved the look of a blanket in it, thought it was me when it didn’t work out, so checked online, found over a dozen websites that indicate it is an uneven number of stitches.
Hi Lisa, I double checked my notes and my photos and I did work this on an even number of stitches.
In my pattern, Row 1 ends on a slip stitch. Most pattens for half linen knit stitch add an extra K1 after that- hence the +1 stitch in cast on. I hope this explains. I also added a quick diagram to explain how it worked. Happy Knitting!
If you were to make this larger how many skeins would u use and how many stitches would you cast on
Cast on an even number of stitches, approximately 3 stitches for every inch wider you want the blanket to be
beautiful colors and pattern. Having trouble with pattern. I am a visual learner and have not learned slip stitich and yarn over. So, I need to bone up on those first. Also, I like to do gauge before I knit. could you give us that data with the yarn you used. I am going to get the same yarn and needles you used.
What is the edge stitch used?
I didn’t add any edging. The blanket stays flat beautifully by itself
Hello, ths is a beautiful pattern, the ombre yarns also
wb beautiful to use and show beauty of stitch off too.
This stitch creates a nice dense, warm blanket.
My question is,does this pattern need blocking?
The blanket is dense and lays flat beautifully without any blocking!
Does the slip stitch slip purl-wise?
Yes, I always slip stitch purl-wise.
,what is the stitch count? What I want to know how many would I use for a premier blanket?
