I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends. But with November behind us, it means just one thing. It’s December baby!

Christmas Baking is my all time favorite, especially holiday cookies. It’s the best way to bond with your kids, have fun and make some treats.

Ombre Christmas Tree Cookies

To make these Ombre Christmas Tree Cookies, you will need:

One sugar cookie mix (+butter+eggs+1tsp flour as the mix requires), cookie cutters and food coloring.

I used the Tree cookie cutter from this Wilton Cookie Cutters Set, 101-Piece — Alphabet, Numbers and Holiday Cookie Cutters.

  • Mix the cookie batter according to the package instructions. In my house, this step could be known as “the fight for the spatula”. Baking with kids is always an adventure.
  • Divide into three equal parts. Add food coloring to each part. I chose to make a dark green, lighter green and light green.
  • Let the kids knead their colors in. This was their most favorite part!
  • Roll a log out of each color, placed them together and rolled them all together.
  • Cut out your cookies making sure a little of each color is seen.
  • Bake the cookies and wait for them to cool before  you eat them. The first two batches we made were eaten immediately!

With the left over dough we just mixed and matched and had fun. I tried braiding the dough (and then lightly rolling out the braid flat to press cookie cutter).

We also rolled dough into tiny little balls and rolled lightly. Its all good 🙂 This time, I got a picture of how they look before they go into the oven.

Bake, share and enjoy these Ombre Christmas Tree Cookies. But more importantly, have fun with your family while making them.
