Caron Simply Soft Yarn for Blanket: Silky + Colorful!
When starting a large crochet project, finding the best soft yarn for blanket making is so important. It needs to be comfortable to work with and cozy to snuggle under. I recently finished a geometric crochet diamond blanket using Caron Simply Soft yarn, and I absolutely adore how it turned out!
Every time I shared photos of this project on social media, I received so many messages asking: “What yarn did you use?” and “Where can I find this pattern?”
Today, I’m sharing my review of how this yarn works up into a blanket, my full 8-color palette breakdown, and a look at my experience making the “Study of Geometry” blanket pattern!

Why Choose Caron Simply Soft Yarn for a Blanket?
If you have been searching for an affordable, high-quality soft yarn for a blanket, Caron Simply Soft is easily one of my favorite choices:
- Touch & Feel: It has a gorgeous sheen, a smooth silkiness, and feels gentle and soft on your hands while crocheting.
- Drape: A large blanket can get stiff quickly with the wrong fiber, but Caron Simply Soft gives a soft, heavy drape that settles comfortably over you.
- Color Variety: The shade range is huge, making it super easy to put together custom colorways.
The Pattern Details:
I made this blanket as part of a summer stitch-along where a new section of the pattern was revealed each week. I loved seeing everyone’s progress and seeing all the different color combinations shared in The Crochet Crowd Stitch Social Facebook group!
If you would like to make this design, you can find the complete, free pattern directly on their site, it is called the Study of Geometry” by The Crochet Crowd.

My Honest Project Review & Stitch Experience
1. The Crochet Blocks
The first part of the pattern focuses on making crochet diamonds. I had never crocheted this shape before and loved the challenge! While the pattern rating says “easy,” I would place it closer to easy-intermediate. The yarn doe not catch on the hook and it is so satisfying to crochet with it!
(Note: The Crochet Crowd provides visual diagrams for every section, which helped immensely!)

2. Joining & Road Tripping
I will admit I second-guessed my color choices at first, but as soon as the diamonds started joining together it looked so pretty. This is really a great soft yarn for blankets.

The next phase was crocheting the half-diamonds. We went on a family road trip around this time, so I brought the blanket along in the car!

3. The 600-Stitch Border
On our 4-hour drive back home, I tackled the final border. There are approximately 600 stitches going around the perimeter, so counting accurately was key. This is such a soft yarn for blanket, it allows the texture to pop and stand out.

Final Thoughts & Leftover Yarn Ideas
Caron Simply Soft yarn held up wonderfully throughout the entire process and created a plush, snuggly finished piece. Using a soft yarn for blanket makes the texture stand out.

If you end up making this blanket, don’t throw away your scraps! I used the leftover yarn from this project to make my shell stitch crochet hat pattern, which also turned out super colorful and cute!
