On this blog, I love sharing Easy DIY Craft tutorials, and today’s Hot Chocolate Bombs is a fun craft that you can make with your family. I crafted these with my two girls (10 and 12 years old) and it was a super fun crafternoon!

What you will need:
- Sweet Tooth Fairy® Meltables in flavors Gingerbread and Peppermint
- Sweet Tooth Fairy® Mini Marshmallow Bits
- Sweet Tooth Fairy® Milk Chocolate Hot Cocoa Mix
- Sweet Sugarbelle® Silicone Bottle Spatula
Hot Cocoa bomb molds
We used this Gingerbread Man 3-Part Mold by Celebrate It but you could also make this using the Sphere 3-Part Mold by Celebrate It. The 3 part plastic molds are available in many fun shapes! These plastic molds are great because the bombs turn out sturdy and easy to remove compared to silicone molds.
How to make Hot Chocolate Bombs with plastic molds
Melt your Meltables in the Microwave. It takes about 30 to 45 seconds, and then stir the mixture till it is smooth.
- Place the Top Mold onto a flat surface and fill in the cavity of your mold with the liquid Meltables.
- After many trial and errors, we found that overfilling the cavity and pouring out the excess gave best results
- Place the Liner on top and press into place.
- Now place the Bottom Mold on top and click into place. Refrigerate for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, you can easily pop the bombs out of the mold! It is super satisfying and even the kids can do it.
We broke the first set we made, because we did not use enough meltables to fill the cavity. But once you get the hang of how to make hot chocolate bombs, you will figure out how much meltables you need to fill.
TIP: Always over fill the cavity when in doubt. The excess chocolate will just harden on the side and will snap off very easily.
Once you have the cavity ready, fill it with the Hot Cocoa powder and Mini Marshmallows.
To seal the Hot Chocolate Bombs, we microwaved a plate and then rubbed the top part of the bomb on it till the the edges begun to melt. Then quickly place it onto the bottom and press to seal. Add more chocolate around the seal to secure.
Tips on how to make hot Chocolate bombs at home:

- Make an assembly line: We first made a bunch of the cavities and then filled them all at once. This makes the process go faster for sure.
- Try different flavors: Think new and swap out regular chocolate for gingerbread or peppermint flavors for a new twist!
- Freeze it to go fast: Freeze the mold for 3 minutes instead of refrigerating for 10 minutes!
- Use a tiny spatula: This spatula was great to help fill out the nooks and crannies of the mold easily.
How long does Homemade Hot Chocolate Bombs last?
When you make Hot Chocolate Bombs at home, they usually last about 3 or 4 weeks. There is no need to refrigerate these, just place them in an airtight container and store in a cool place.
Do you use Water or Milk for a Cocoa Bomb?
For a rich flavorful taste, milk is the best option. Fill your mug 2/3 of the way with mild and heat. Drop your Hot Chocolate Bomb in and watch it dissolve and fizz!

Today, my girls and I learnt how to make hot chocolate bombs at home, and it was a great afternoon! We made mistakes, we made messes- I mean there was melted chocolate all over the kitchen by the end of the day, but we also made the best memories. My girls enjoyed making these Hot Chocolate Bombs as much as drinking the final hot chocolate. A total win win!
