Valentine Class Craft Tutorial

  1. Punch out the hearts. Cut or punch out 5 red or pink hearts for the flower petals and 2 green hearts for leaves. Kids love choosing different colors and mixing patterns
  2. Create the bookmark stem. Cut a green strip of paper about 1 inch wide and 8 inches long, this becomes the base of your bookmark. This step is easy enough for younger kids and builds fine motor skills.
  3. Make the heart flower. Cut a small circle (about 2 inches wide) from cardstock
Arrange and glue the five hearts around the circle to form a flower. Add a small circle in the center for a pop of color. Let kids experiment with color combinations—no two flowers need to look the same.
  4. Assemble everything. Attach your flower to the top of the green stem and glue the leaves near the bottom.
  5. Add a personal touch. Have students write “Happy Valentine’s Day”, “Love to Read”, “You Are Loved”or sign their name, it makes each bookmark feel special!

As a room parent for my kindergartners class, I was assigned the job to bring a craft for the class to do. I chose this easy Valentine Class craft because it was easy for a class of 30, had minimal prep and cleanup, was budget friendly and the kids create a keepsake they can actually use.

My husband and I just had to punch out a whole bunch of hearts- which we did over the span of a 2 to 3 days and it was actually super fun!

Classroom Craft Tips: If you’re doing this with a large group, prep some heart shapes ahead of time so kids can jump right into gluing and decorating. You can even set up a “heart-punch station” for a little hands-on fun!
