Hearts are simple shapes that look beautiful when painted in soft, flowing watercolor tones. This watercolor heart painting is an easy and joyful way to relax with your sketchbook and create something colorful

- Watercolor paper or a sketchbook with thick pages – check out my Archer and Olive notebook review which I am using here.
- A soft round brush
- Water and a palette for mixing
Watercolor Heart Painting Tutorial
Watercolor hearts fall into the category of organic patterns, shapes that feel natural and free, not rigid or mechanical.
Simply paint heart shapes with loose, rounded lines. The charm of this style is its wonky, imperfect nature.
Mix heart sizes and shades (e.g., light to dark pinks, reds, or even purples) to add rhythm and interest across your page
Load your brush with color and water so the pigment flows lightly across the paper. Uneven lines, overlapping washes, and unpredictable blooms make each heart unique
This sketch page came together quickly in under 15 minutes and today I used three colors Tombow Dual Brush Pens here- 723, 743 and 885
TIP: Try spacing hearts loosely rather than crowding them — white space helps the colors sing.

CONCLUSION: Why create a Watercolor Heart Painting?
I highly recommend painting simple organic patterns in your sketchbooks! The whole process is very relaxing, calming and it quickly helps me unwind after a long day.
You don’t have to measure and sketch out your page beforehand, the elements all do not need to match and be the same size, yet when they are all put together there is a simple beauty to the pattern.
Painting hearts in a watercolor style is both relaxing and expressive — the fluid medium encourages spontaneity, and the heart shape is forgiving and playful. Focusing on simple shapes like hearts is a great way to build confidence with watercolor techniques and create art you’ll love looking at.
