You can easily customize this scarf with your favorite colors. I chose red and yellow because that was what my daughter wanted. You can also make thinner more dramatic color changes like I did in this striped crochet scarf pattern.

Harry Potter Scarf Crochet Tutorial:

This Harry Potter Scarf Crochet pattern is beautifully simple and repetitive. If you’re new to crochet, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with step-by-step help along the way.

  1. Start With Your Foundation: Chain 10 using your first color. If you’re brand new, check out my detailed guide on how to chain so you can get started with confidence.
  2. First Row: Single Crochet into the second chain from the hook and across. Need a refresher? I walk you through it step-by-step in my how to single crochet (sc) tutorial.
  3. Build the Scarf: Ch 1, turn. Single crochet into each single crochet stitch. Repeat for 8 rows. If this is your first project, you might also love my beginner-friendly guide on how to crochet a scarf, where I break everything down even more with a helpful step by step video.
  4. Change Colors: Switch to your new color and repeat the same 8 rows.

Pro Tips for a Cleaner Finish: Keep your tension consistent for even stripes. To tuck your yarn ends as you go, hold both the short ends of yarns over the previous row and crochet over yarn tails as you go to avoid weaving later

You can easily turn this Harry Potter Scarf Crochet into a softer, slightly taller stitch pattern by learning how to double crochet and simply replace each row of sc with either hdc or dc stitches. You can also make this a quick crochet scarf by learning how to double treble crochet.

In the below paragraph, you will find the Harry Potter Crochet Scarf Pattern

With your P hook, Chain 10 using the Cranberry colored yarn.

Foundation row: SC into the second chain from hook and into every chain after that. Turn.

Pattern row: Chain 1. SC into each stitch. Turn.

Repeat the pattern row a total of 8 times in Cranberry color. Cut yarn and pull through loop. Turn.

Attach the Mustard colored yarn into the SC below by pulling up a loop. Ch 1, SC into same sc, SC into each SC. Complete row and check that there are 9 verticals of SC. This is where you might most commonly miss a stitch.

Work 8 rows in Mustard color

Alternate the two-color blocks till you have a scarf of the desired length.

My finished Harry Potter Crochet scarf measures approximately 4 inches wide and is 60 inches long.

Harry Potter Scarf Crochet Notes:

  • Adjust your starting chain to change the width: A starting chain of 12 will increase the width of the scarf by about an inch. Add an extra 2 chains per inch increase in width.
  • Make a thinner Striped Crochet Scarf Pattern and you can easily carry the unused yarn color up the side of the work.
  • Use a larger hook for a softer, less dense scarf: Although the yarn packaging recommends using an N hook (9mm) I’m using a larger P hook (12mm). The larger hook just means that your work will be a little airier otherwise the scarf ends up being too heavy.
  • If you want to go further, learn how to add a scarf fringe for beginners to elevate your scarf.

Conclusion:

There’s something magical about wearing a scarf you made yourself. I hope you enjoyed today’s pattern for Harry Potter Scarf Crochet and if you make one of your own do share in the comments!
