Hello friends! Last evening while browsing the aisles of Michaels Arts and Crafts, I made a purchase of a beautiful diamond painting kit! I’m excited to start working on this, but first lets unbox it together, and let me explain what is diamond art.
Recently, I shared my Paint by Numbers Tips and while looking for something new and similar I found these diamond art kits and loved the idea.

Diamond Art also known as Diamond Painting, is a form of art that involves placing small, diamond-like resin rhinestones onto a canvas to create a sparkling and colorful design. It is a form of pixel art, and as a kid if you liked playing and collecting stickers, you will love a Diamond Art Kit!

Do they have Diamond Art Kits at Michaels?
Yes! Yesterday I picked up this Make Market Diamond Art Kit. I chose the artwork design called Butterfly and Flowers and it has a beautiful spring vibe to it. It measures 18 by 24 inches in size. I had not seen this particular brand before, and there were many more beautiful designs available!
What is in a Diamond Art Kit?
A Diamond Art Kit comes with everything you need to finish your unique piece of art. The canvas comes with a pre-printed design and has a sticky surface that is protected by a plastic film. Each section of the design is marked with a symbol that corresponds to a specific color of rhinestone. By following the pattern and placing the colored diamonds onto the canvas, you can create a beautiful and intricate piece of art!
There is no actual paint involved even though it is called diamond painting. You will want to work on a flat surface to make it easy to adhere the diamonds down.
Cut open one color of diamonds at a time and pour into the given tray. You do not need to use any glue, simple press the picker tool in the wax provided and then use this wax tipped picker to pick your diamond color of choice. I like keeping the tray and wax on the right hand side to prevent knocking it by mistake.

What age are Diamond Art Kits for?
Diamond art is a fun and relaxing hobby that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. I have had summer crafternoons with my mom and daughters- all of us working on a Diamond Art Kit of our own. I guess we are all diamond painters now.
These kits are not recommended for kids below 5 years.
How to choose the right Diamond Art Kit
When choosing a Diamond Art Kit, there are a few things to consider.
- Size of the canvas Larger canvases will take longer to complete. Start with something small like these Diamond Art Bookmarks or Stickers to see if you like this hobby.
- Choose a design you LOVE: I love flowers and butterflies, so this design fills me with joy. I tried doing a landscape once, and it was slow slow progress. Choose a design that you love (not just like!) as you will be spending a lot of time with this canvas. You might loose interest quickly if the design has colors that don’t inspire you.
- Level of detail in the design With more intricate designs, there will be more rhinestone colors and it will take longer to complete, but can be more satisfying to finish.
- Quality of the materials included in the kit, such as the rhinestones and the adhesive. A good quality kit will not have your stones falling off. Look at the diamonds closely, are they round diamonds, full drill and do they have a nice sparkle?
- Tools: Finally, look for a kit that includes all the necessary tools, such as a tray for sorting the drills and a pen for placing them on the canvas.
