The Double Seed Stitch Knit Dishcloth Pattern (also widely known as the Two-Stitch Check, Box Stitch, or Irish Moss Stitch) is a classic, highly textured pattern. It used just the basic knits and purls and turns them into a grid of clean, modern “checkered” blocks.
This dishcloth pattern creates a nice non curling fabric, has nice scrubbing texture, and a reversible design.
What you will need
- Yarn: 60–70 yards of 100% Worsted Weight Cotton (Loops & Threads Everyday Cotton, Lily Sugar ‘n Cream, or Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton).
- Needles: This pattern calls for a pair of Size 4.5mm Bamboo Straight Needles.

Double Seed Stitch Knit Dishcloth Pattern
- Cast On: Cast on 36 stitches (or any multiple of 4 stitches for a custom width).
- Rows 1 & 2: *K2, P2; repeat from * to end of row.
- Rows 3 & 4: *P2, K2; repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat Rows 1–4 until the work measures 8 inches long (or forms a perfect 90-degree square when you fold a corner diagonally to the opposite side).
To Finish: Cast off loosely in pattern (knit the knits, purl the purls as they appear on your cast-off row), cut yarn leaving a 6-inch tail, and weave in your ends using a tapestry needle.
