You can create absolutely unique textures on your cards by heat embossing with stencils. This is such a satisfying craft, it’s such a joy to watch those powders melt into liquid
Card making is a great way to get crafty, yet your canvas is small and managable. With these same embossing powders, you can create different looks when you try heat debossing on cards or embossing on wood.
Today, I used a stencil by Crafter’s Workshop called Wonky Circles on some kraft card stock here today. You can use any craft stencil you might have at home with this.
I applied a generous amount of embossing paste and then used 4 different colors of embossing powders. Simply zap the embossing powders with a heat gun and then layer little stuff on top to finish the card. 10 minutes and done. Just how I like my cards, quick and easy.
Since I had an extra bit of the embossed pattern I added it inside the card too.

Step by step heat embossing with stencils
Total Time: 10 minutes
Place stencil (Crafter’s Workshop called Wonky Circles) on top of a kraft card. Center stencil.
Apply a generous amount of embossing paste using a palette knife. Scrape off excess paste to create an even level of paste. Lift off stencil.
While the embossing paste is still wet, sprinkle 4 different colors of embossing powders. Add enough powder to cover the entire paste, and then shake the excess powder off of the paper.
Melt the embossing powders with a heat gun
Layer little stuff on top- like thread strands, tags, butterfly etc to finish the card.

Here’s another example:
I used a hexagon mask, embossing paste, gesso and some copper embossing powder to create the background. I sprinkled the copper unevenly to create more interest. I love getting my fingers messy 🙂
You can kinda see the texture that the embossing paste gives in this photo here. I heat dried it with my heat gun and it set almost instantly! Popped a butterfly onto the card using a few mini Glue dots and called it done.
