Quick Double Treble Crochet Scarf Pattern

This Double Treble Crochet Scarf is a beginner friendly project that works up quickly to make a perfect gift item! Bonus, it used just 3 skeins of yarn

You will find many Knitting and Crochet Ideas here on my blog, but today is the first time I’m trying out some Dollar Tree Yarn.

I chose a Double Treble Crochet stitch that is a great for scarves. This project is a small portable project makes a light airy scarf.

Supplies You Will Need

Yarn Details: 3 Skeins of Dollar Tree Yarn or ANY Worsted weight 4 yarn https://www.dollartree.com/searchresults?Ntt=just%20yarn

Crochet Hook used: I’ve used the size I 5.5mm hook from my Clover Amour Crochet Hook Set.

Let’s learn how to make the Double Treble (DTR) also called the Double Triple Stitch

• For our scarf, we will start with a chain of 16+ 4.
• Yarn over 3 times. You will now have 4 loops on the hook
• Insert into 5th chain on the hook and pull up a loop. You will now have 5 loops on the hook.
• Then Yarn over and pull through two stitches on your hook at a time – you will do that a total of 4 times to make a tall stitch. Watch the Double Treble Tutorial video.

Continue making DTRs into each chain, and you should have 16 tall stitches.

Turn and chain 4 stitches. I consider this turning chain as a double treble itself and then crochet double trebles into each of the below stitches (skipping the first stitch).

Make sure that you are making a DTR into the turning chain of the row beneath. Don’t skip that stitch! You should be maintaining the16 stitches.

Change color if desired at 1/3 the length. I worked each color for about 25 rows each for a total of 75 rows

I love how it turned out and that it was such an easily portable project. I took it with me to kids’ swim lessons, car drives, and while watching TV and had it completed in under a week. The colors of this scarf also make me super happy!! I love the three different colors that work seamlessly together.

What is the difference between Treble and Double Treble Crochet?

A Double Treble Crochet stitch is taller than a normal Treble Crochet simply because we add an extra yarn over. For a normal Treble stitch, we would yarn over twice before entering the fabric, whereas for the Double Treble Crochet we yarn over thrice before entering the fabric thus adding extra height to our stitch. You can easily swap the Double Treble and just make this a Treble Crochet Scarf with a 3 chain turn instead.
