HOW do you make a DOUBLE TREBLE (US):
Let’s learn how to make the Double Treble (DTR) also called the Double Triple Stitch
To make a DTR:
- Start with any number of chains + 4chains. I have 20 chains here.
- Yarn over 3 times. You will now have 4 loops on the hook
- Insert into 5th chain on the hook and pull up a loop. You will now have 5 loops on the hook.
- Then Yarn over and pull through two stitches on your hook at a time – you will do that a total of 4 times to make a tall stitch. Watch the Double Treble Tutorial video.
Double Treble Crochet Scarf Pattern:
This Double Treble Stitch Scarf makes a light and airy scarf that works up very quickly! Great for last-minute gifts.
Yarn Details: Dollar Tree Yarn or ANY Worsted weight 4 yarn
Crochet Hook used: I’ve used the size I 5.5mm crochet hook from my Clover Amour Crochet Hook Set here.
Start with a chain of 16+ 4. Crochet a Double Treble into the 5th chain from the hook and every chain after. You should have 16 tall stitches.
At the end of your rows, Turn and chain 4 stitches. I consider this turning chain as a double treble itself and then crochet double trebles into each of the below stitches (skipping the first stitch). Make sure that you are making a DTR into the turning chain of the row beneath. Don’t skip that stitch! You should be maintaining the16 stitches.
Change color if desired at 1/3 the length. I worked each color for about 25 rows each for a total of 75 rows
Here is my finished scarf, I love how it turned out and that it was such an easily portable project. I took it with me to kids’ swim lessons, car drives, and while watching TV and had it completed in under a week. The colors of this scarf also make me super happy!!

Dollar Tree Yarn Review:
If you have not tried out the Dollar Tree Yarn, I’m here to tell you that they are all worth the $1! The Dollar Tree Yarn is a smaller skein but surprisingly is of great quality.
Here is my quick Dollar tree yarn review for you. The Dollar Tree Yarn brand comes in a variety of styles. Most of these yarns have a whopping 5 star rating on the Dollar Tree website and for a reason.
Pro: Great colors, good quality, and many different textures.
Cons: Smaller size skeins.
What is the difference between Treble and Double Treble Crochet?
A Double Treble Crochet stitch is taller than a normal Treble Crochet simply because we add an extra yarn over. For a normal Treble stitch, we would yarn over twice before entering the fabric, whereas for the Double Treble Crochet we yarn over thrice before entering the fabric thus adding extra height to our stitch
