This felt rainbow could not be easier to make- you can easily skip the embroidery if you need to and just glue the felt in place for a quicker but equally adorable project! Check out this previous post on tips on how to get gelt to stick together!
dIY nursery wall art: What you will need:
One 8 by 10-inch canvas, Craft Felt sheets in Rainbow colors, Embroidery floss in Rainbow Colors + needle, Acrylic paints – a sky blue color and white + a paint brush, Tacky Fabric Adhesive, Scissors- A small embroidery scissor and another long sharp one. I used the Fiskars Amplify Shears here, they are perfect for this.
DIY Nursery Wall Art felt rainbow Tutorial:
Let’s begin our Felt Rainbow Tutorial.
Step 1: Paint your blank canvas. I chose a bright blue and gave it a streaky white look by using a dry brush with a little white paint.
Step 2: Prep for your Rainbow. Cut long 0.5 inch wide strips from the different colors of felt. I used the 8 inch Amplify shears for this and you can easily cut multiple sheets of felt at once.
Step 3: Start by placing the smallest arch of the rainbow onto the canvas. For me here it was the purple colored felt. Sew into place using simple straight stitches. Repeat this for each color of felt.
Step 4: Using the smaller embroidery scissors trim the excess felt to shape the rainbow bottom. I initially cut all of the felt strips the same length, and trimmed them to size accordingly after sewing them onto the canvas. I found it easier to make my felt rainbow this way.
Step 5: I handcut felt to make the cloud shapes. Cut four cloud shapes per rainbow, two smaller than the others and adhere them onto the canvas using generous amounts of fabric adhesive.
All Done!
