This Free Crochet Pouch Design is super simple to follow and easily customizable with colors of your choice. The thick yarn makes the pattern go quickly, and the resulting pouch is soft with a modern vibe.

🧵 What You’ll Need
For this crochet pouch design, you will need a few simple supplies.
- Bulky or super bulky yarn (I’ve used Wool-Ease Thick & Quick)
- Size N (9 mm) crochet hook (or whatever size your yarn calls for)
- Scissors and yarn needle
- Button for closure
- Optional: Felt or fabric for lining

How to make a small pouch with crochet?
This pattern is a simple textured crochet moss stitch in the round. I have used this same stitch in this crochet moss stitch scarf pattern. Because the yarn is thick, the whole thing goes together quickly. Plus, you can pick your favorite colors and let your creativity shine — I went with a soft rainbow, but you could absolutely do it in one solid hue!
There is no starting number of chains, you just a create a loop, and then work in the pattern- sc, ch 1 into each stitch, and into corner you will sc, ch2, sc, and close each round with a sl st. You can download the exact row by row pattern pdf down below and follow along.
If you’re brand-new to crochet, check out my beginner posts- how to start chain crochet and how to single crochet for beginners which have helpful videos to walk you through the needed steps.

You can make this pouch with whatever colors you choose, I created a soft rainbow and love how it turned out! You could of course make this with just one solid color of yarn too!
This pattern is worked from the center, and you can make this as large as you need it to be. I created an 9 inch square for my crochet pouch design.

How it comes together
Once you’ve crocheted the main body, you fold in the corners and sew along the sides to form the pouch shape. Add the button closure and you’re all set! There is no need to create a separate button hole, as the corner sc, ch2, sc will work as a the perfect space for the button to close.

Tips and Notes:
- This crochet pouch design is easily customizable, you can make a stripe design, or even use a basic granny square and fold it into the pouch.
- This is a practical and cute project that makes an adorable handmade gift idea. You can pair it with a few lip glosses or air pods to make a thoughtful gift. I also have a crochet tablet holder pattern that co ordinates beautifully with this crochet pouch design.
- If you are making gifts, and need this pattern to go faster- try using a double crochet stitch. The dc stitch is taller and quicker.
- And if you want to give your pouch a more finished, polished look, you can add a lining to this crochet pouch design. A small piece of felt or lightweight fabric cut to fit the inside of the pouch works beautifully. You can hand stitch it into place, or learn how to glue felt easily.
This pattern can be adjusted to what you need it to be. It makes a great scrap yarn idea, as there is no exact gauge that you need to maintain, Its a simple one row rep pattern that is easy to make. I love that there are no drawstrings, you just need one pretty button! It can be used to store everything from makeup to crochet hooks or even as a small travel case. Best part is I am using yarn from my other super bulky projects here, as we need just a little of each color. I hope you have fun making this little gem — thanks for stopping by today for this free crochet pouch design!

Happy Crocheting!

I love the colors you chose for this small pouch! And I love how easy it is to make – nothing could be less intimidating than working with rectangles, right? Such a fantastic idea! Also, I wanted to drop a quick message to let you know that I’ve featured your pattern on Crafts on Display, hope you enjoy it!
Wool-Ease is lovely to us, have lots in my stash and heart tones and enlarge the granny square for storing a small package of hand wipes and lip balm. Since making mine, I’ve made 6 more in colourful tones for friends. Thank you for the joy you bring into my life and my cats, she tries to run off with the wool when ever I leave the project on end table. She’s very funny.
Love that you are enjoying this pattern 🙂
I like the way you combined the colors in this and your clear pattern instructions. Thank you for sharing your talent!
