How To Crochet Moss Stitch For Beginners
Today let’s learn how to crochet moss stitch step by step with a video that you can work along to. This stitch is simple, repetitive, and creates a fabric that has a great drape and is reversible.

What Is the Crochet Moss Stitch?
The crochet moss stitch, is also popularly known as the crochet linen stitch, the crochet woven stitch or the crochet granite stitch.
It is created by simply alternating a single crochet with a chain 1.
The single crochet is not worked into the stitches from the previous row, instead you work them into the ch1 spaces. This creates rows with very short height, as the new row overlaps the previous row creating a textured, woven appearance.
What to Know Before Starting
- Skill Level: This is beginner friendly stitch. You only need to know a few crochet basic stitches – how to make a slip knot crochet, how to crochet the chain, and how to single crochet.
- Materials Used: For this tutorial I have used the Wool Ease Thick Quick yarn and a size N 9mm hook.

Row 2: ch2, skip the first sc, sc into the first ch1 space, *ch1, sc into next ch1 space* repeat across, working the final sc into the turning chain space.
Repeat Row 2 till your swatch is finished.
